Backward phone number search allows one to enter a phone number to search for the name and address that belongs to that phone number. It’s called a backward phone number search because you are basically looking up a number like you normally would, but are doing it backward.
Other terms used are, backward phone directory, backward white pages, backwards search… etc.
If the number you are using is a cell phone, you won’t be able to get the info free. But if it’s a number from the typical home phone, then you should be able to get the name and address free if you dig deep enough.
Start by entering the number into Google. You should get back some kind of info. Be sure to put the area code in too. If too many results come back, put quotes around the number… like this “xxx-xxx-xxxx”. That should narrow the results down a lot.
I’d try if with a cell phone number, just to be sure that you can’t get any kind of information for free… before you need to go out and pay for a service. You never know, and it doesn’t hurt to try.
No one likes to have to fork over money before they try to get something for nothing. But if you do have to end up paying, make sure you use a service that won’t charge if you can’t use the results of the search.
The backward phone number search that I use, doesn’t charge me if I don’t like the results.
