Reverse Phone Number

Try some of these tips before you use a reverse phone nuber service. Then if all else fails, you will feel better about paying a small fee for a reverse phone number search.

In most of North America, the majority of house phones enjoy the luxury of caller ID with name. This means a caller’s number and their full name often appear on your phone’s display. The only exceptions to this are those annoying calls marked as ‘private’, and a few out of area calls.

But the system which provides names on your caller ID, CNAM, is actually an extension to the protocol itself. That is, it’s separate. That’s why when you switched over to a cell phone, you may have noticed incoming calls do not appear with a name, but only a number. Cellular networks do not have the provisions for displaying the information associated with a person’s name – even though companies have it on file in their databases.

Using Your Address Book to Display Names of Incoming Calls

Many of us have already figured out that we can use the address book in our cell phone to identify incoming calls by name, or nickname, as the case may be. When you receive a new, known call to your phone, simply choose the appropriate menu options to add them to your contact list. You will be prompted for their information, and from then on whenever a call comes from that number, your phone will tell you who it is. There is even an auditory option to announce the call on most phones.

How to Identify and Add Phone Numbers You Don’t Already Know

Now unfortunately for this solution to work precipitates that you already know the name of the person associated with an incoming phone number. Often you can obtain this information from friends, but business associates, new acquaintances, or repetitive calls from annoying telemarketers may not be so obvious.

For this, you can identify the number using reverse phone number service. Simply type the number calling you into a major search engine and briefly review the results. If you see the information you want, simply add it. If not, you may need to use a specialized reverse phone number directory.

While these directories charge a small fee to cover operating costs, they allow you to search an unlimited number of times. This is useful when you have new numbers to add in the future. They also provide very detailed information about the owner of a number, not just their name but also addresses and background records. Simply enter the number into their form and click search. Often it takes only a few seconds, and just a little bit more to add it.

And there you have it. Working caller ID with name for your cell phone!
